 The first ever compass was made in China by a man named William Thomson, in 1907.

The direction of the compass is N (North) E (East) S (South) W (West). A saying to remember these is "Never Eat Sour Watermelon".

One thing that affects the direction of the compass in the placement of the arrows.

Jobs like Mining, Military and Pilots still use compasses

Sports that use compasses are Hunting, Sailing and Orienteering.

We have these Memorials, so we can remember the people who fought for us. We also have them because some peoples bodies were left overs eases and don't have graves. 

People meet on ANZAC days at the memorials to remember the soldiers.
